The Libertine ... yesh
so...A friend of mine, Cindy, gives me a pass to go see The Libertine . So I take one of my best pals Anne with me, and the three of us and Kelly Ingram all morph off to see Depp in action. As you know, movies are usually broken down into 3 seperate acts, and this movie I guess was no exception. But I have to say that it certainly felt like TWO acts. Because the first part of the movie was a real head bobbing experience for me, I kept feeling myself drifting off to sleep. I have to say that regret for going to this movie dogged me every couple of minutes or so about 15 minutes into the movie. The reason why was because as great as the acting was and the costumes and scenery etc, I thought the movie was predictable and I kept thinking, great dancing sandwiches batman!!! another 90 minutes or so of this? But... I should have known better. Depp can pick and choose his projects now as he is an accomplished actor, so he's not going to pick something mundane and predictable and he surely didn't. I won't give away any spoilers but... wow.. what a performance. It's a movie about redemption and discovery sure, but it also has some amazing performances in it. Samantha Morton was in the movie as well, I've only seen her in one or two other films before, one of them being In America and she was fantastic in THAT movie too. Part of this movie that really captured my focus was that Depp played this person who found himself bored with life... through his mannerism and reaction to things you just knew that the character he was playing had a "is that it?" attitude about life. So he was very Dionysus like... very "MORE MORE MORE" with his wine women and song. Imagine Jim Morrison in the 16th century. Of course he paid for his consumption of all things carnal at the end. They say the path of excess leads to the tower of wisdom, but it also leads to a very dangerous and lonely place. Anyway, the reason why all that captured my attention was because in my 20's I actually lived by that motto. Having done that I found myself in a very ... burned out mindset and to this day I still pay for it in lots of ways. AAAANYWAY... not to bore you, but if you like your movies with a pinch of Depp and a splash of English accents... then you'll dig The Libertine... it's the most!
Vander Klok... out.

So, being the Kelly Ingram that went to the movie with you. I have to completely agree with your analogy of the movie. Although, I might be a little biased bacuase in my opinion, Johnny Depp can do no wrong. So yeah ..... enough about my love for everything Johnny. The movie was shockingly great.
